Fishing

Brook trout, rainbow and brown trout are found throughout the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. In all, Vermont offers over 4,000 miles of public lakes, ponds, streams and rivers. Fishing Licenses are available on-line at the State Fish and Wildlife website or at Sylvester's Supermarket in Montgomery Center just two doors away from The Coach House. Trail Running

The Northern Frontier Section of the Green Mountain Club maintains the Long Trail from Hazen's Notch (Route 58) to the Canadian Border as well as the Journey's End Trail. This section is the most remote part of the Long Trail and includes some of it's most challenging trail running courses. In all, the members of the Northern Frontier section maintain 18.7 miles of trail and five shelters amidst the superb scenery provided in a totally unspoilt neck of the woods.

 

Mountain Biking or Hiking

Jay Peak joins up with the Long Trail and that is part of the famed Appalachian Trail. Hiking and biking enthusiasts will be enthralled with the trails and beauty of the Northeast Kingdom.

There are public tennis courts in North Troy (just a short walk from the Four Seasons Vacation Rental apartments), Derby, Derby Line and Newport. Swimming Holes

There is nothing better on a lazy summer day than to enjoy your summer holiday in Vermont at the natural swimming holes that are found throughout the Northeast Kingdom. Not far from The Coach House and The Four Seasons apartments are a number of swimming holes. Some are posted as private property which should be respected, but others do allow visitors to enjoy the crystal clear cascading waters. Swimming beaches are also found at Lake Willoughby, a deep glacial lake. The family beach is at the north end, nude beach at the south end. Located in Westmore.

Crystal Lake in Barton has generally warmer waters than Lake Willoughby and it too has a public beach.

 

Waterfalls

North Troy
